Freeland
|
Less than a mile of flat grassland separates Mutiny Bay on the western shoreline and Holmes Harbor, where Freeland is the fastest growing community in Island County.
Back in 1900, a little band of socialists believed they had found Utopia when they settled on the end of the harbor and started a village. Each member of the Free Land Association was to have a five acre plot to build a home and farm. Members paid $10 down on the property and the rest of the payments were to be made from the profits of the cooperative enterprise.
The socialist experiment failed, but the name lived on. A retail hub, Freeland caters to a diverse population, with senior housing, new development, nature reserve, boat-building industry, and recreation. There are both casual and fine dining options. Views can be had of Holmes Harbor and the eastern sunrises, or western locations with Olympic Mountains and sunsets over the shipping lanes. You can enjoy walking trails, kayak Holmes Harbor, beachwalk at Mutiny Bay, play golf on a picturesque public course, and you're just minutes to South Whidbey State Park.
Freeland also is where you'll find SOUNDVIEW REALTY!
